Dedication of the Lanteran Basilica / Decicación de la Basílica de Letran

November 9th marks the anniversary of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica in Rome. We are reminded of the significance of that Basilica as the mother of all churches. It houses the Bishop of Rome, the Pope who is the head of the whole Roman Catholic Church although many think of Saint Peter's Basilica as the Pope's main church. Every Roman Catholic Bishop has a church as the seat of the diocese called “Cathedra” in Latin, meaning chair, the symbol of the bishop's authority.
