Quinto Domingo de Pascua / Fifth Sunday of Easter

Los astronautas en el espacio caminan conectados por una correa al sistema de soporte vital; los bebés están conectados a su madre por el cordón umbilical. Los teléfonos celulares tienen que estar cargados para funcionar. De la misma manera, nosotros, Cristianos, tenemos que estar conectados con Dios. La Buena Noticia es que Dios se ha fijado en ti. Por el Bautismo te ha injertado en la viña que es Cristo. Tienes la vida de Cristo, la vida cristiana. Posees el elemento principal para dar fruto: la unión con Cristo, porque "el sarmiento no puede dar fruto por sí mismo, si no permanece en la vid" (Jn 15,4). ¿Cuántas cosas has querido hacer sin Cristo? ¿Eres una rama sana o una rama muerta? El fruto que Dios espera de ti es el de las buenas obras y la práctica de las virtudes. ¿Cuál es la conexión con Dios que te hace capaz de dar este fruto?

Astronauts on a space walk connected by a tether to the life-support system; babies are connected to their mother by their umbilical cords. Cell phones have to be charged to function. Likewise, we, Christians, have to be connected to God. The Good News is that God has set His sight on you. Through Baptism, God has grafted you onto the true vine that is Christ. You have the life of Christ, the Christian life. You own the main element for bearing fruit: your union with Christ, because "a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine" (Jn 15:4). How many things have you wanted to do without Christ? Are you a healthy branch or a dead branch? The fruit that God expects from you is that of good deeds and the practice of virtues. What is the connection with God that makes you capable of bearing this fruit?
